What are SkinMedica Peels?
Achieving radiant and youthful skin is a common desire for many individuals, and SkinMedica offers a comprehensive range of chemical peels to address various skin concerns. Among their popular offerings are the Illuminize Peel, Vitalize Peel, and Rejuvenize Peel. These innovative treatments provide tailored solutions for different skin types and concerns.
SkinMedica Illuminize Peel
The SkinMedica Illuminize Peel is a gentle yet effective superficial peel designed to enhance skin radiance and luminosity. It is ideal for individuals looking to refresh their appearance without extensive downtime. The Illuminize Peel employs a blend of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), including mandelic acid, malic acid, and phytic acid. This unique formulation exfoliates the skin’s outermost layer, reducing dullness and promoting a brighter complexion. Key benefits of the Illuminize Peel include enhanced luminosity and radiance, improvement in skin tone, texture, and clarity, reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, minimal downtime allowing for immediate return to daily activities, and suitability for all skin types including sensitive skin.
SkinMedica Vitalize Peel
The SkinMedica Vitalize Peel offers a more intensive treatment option for individuals seeking to address various skin imperfections, including fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation irregularities, and acne scarring. It combines a blend of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol, with retinoic acid for enhanced exfoliation and skin rejuvenation. The Vitalize Peel improves skin texture, tone, and clarity; reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines; lightens hyperpigmentation, including age spots and sun damage; increases skin firmness and elasticity; and offers minimal downtime which typically involve a few days of mild peeling and redness.

SkinMedica Rejuvenize Peel
The SkinMedica Rejuvenize Peel is the most intensive peel in the SkinMedica lineup in which this deep peel is specifically designed to target advanced signs of aging, including moderate to severe wrinkles, sun damage, and uneven pigmentation. The Rejuvenize Peel utilizes a potent combination of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol, along with an additional boost of peeling agents. It penetrates deeper into the skin’s layers, promoting collagen production, reducing the appearance of deep wrinkles, and improving overall skin quality. There is moderate downtime which typically involves a week of visible peeling and redness.
SkinMedica's range of peels are safe and effective:
While SkinMedica’s range of peels is designed to be safe and effective, there are a few important considerations to keep in mind:
- Assessment: Before undergoing any chemical peel, it is essential to consult with our aesthetician who can assess your skin condition, discuss your goals, and recommend the most suitable peel for your specific needs
- Pre-Peel Preparation: Depending on the peel’s intensity, our aesthetician may recommend specific pre-peel preparations, such as avoiding certain skincare products or treatments, to ensure optimal results and minimize any potential side effects
- Post-Peel Care: Following a peel, it is crucial to follow the post-treatment instructions provided by our aesthetician. This may include avoiding excessive sun exposure, using gentle skincare products, and practicing diligent sun protection to protect the newly revealed skin
- Gradual Results and Multiple Treatments: While you may notice immediate improvements after a peel, it is important to note that the full benefits typically are achieved with a series of treatments.
Frequently Asked Questions for SkinMedica Peel
The Illuminize Peel is recommended for first-time peel patients and for those looking for a gentle treatment to address mild skin imperfections and achieve brighter and more radiant skin. The Vitalize Peel is best for patients looking to treat photodamage, fine lines and wrinkles, pigment, and acne scarring. The Rejuvenize Peel is appropriate for addressing overall photodamage, lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, skin texture, and post-acne marks.
Every patient has varying levels of tolerance to treatments. During the treatment, patients may experience tingling or burning sensations which are normal and expected to last anywhere from a few minutes to 1-2 hours.
The Illuminize Peel generally has little to no downtime and peeling, the Vitalize Peel may have mild to moderate peeling for 2-5 days, and the more intensive Rejuvenize Peel may cause moderate peeling with more redness, burning sensation, and frosting for 2-5 days.
A single treatment helps to reduce signs of aging, but once the skin has recovered from the peel, the aging process starts again. Therefore, an appropriate daily skincare regimen and routine peel treatments are recommended for long-term improvement and maintenance.
Multiple sessions are recommended to achieve desired results. The Illuminize Peel can be done every 2 weeks, Vitalize Peel every 3-4 weeks, and Rejuvenize Peel every 4-6 weeks.
